Job Summary:
The Senior Network Engineer at DQE will act as the top level escalation point for network events. The Senior Network Engineer is tasked with solving the most complex network issues, often recreating events in a lab environment to better understand, mitigate, and resolve service impacts. The Senior Network Engineer assists in the design, cost analysis, roadmap, implementation, and management of the DQE Metro Ethernet, DWDM, management networks, and supporting systems. This position will work closely with product management to create and enhance DQE’s service offerings. On-call responsibilities for major network events may be required. Must be local to the Pittsburgh area. Hybrid work environment.

Key Job Responsibilities:
- Monitor, analyze day-to-day operational issues and anomalies affecting end-customer network performance.
- Provide Tier-3/Tier 2 customer technical support calls, including occasional rotation covering 7x24 customer outages and NOC reported alarms.
- Administer ISP related functions such as using Juniper and Nokia routers, DNS, web servers, email servers, etc.
- Assist in design of customer IP/network solutions; specify, upgrade and configure switches, routers and firewalls.
- Provide project management for basic networking projects, including equipment specification and schedule management.
- Create and maintain documentation and training for Engineering and Service Delivery teams.
- Develop solutions that support unique customer requirements.
- Collaborate with Sales Engineering to improve project workflow processes and meet with key stakeholders to discuss issues related to network design and implementation.
- Participate in new product development.
- Complete proof of concept and documentation for new implementations.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to explain highly complex, difficult and/or sensitive information.
- Works well in team environment with a proven track record of building consensus with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience with complex network troubleshooting and problem resolution.
- Advanced experience with programming languages such as Python.
- Network automation development is highly desired.
- Bachelors Degree in Science or Engineering.
- 5-10 years of experience in networking, telecommunications or related industry required.
- Understanding of optical fiber characteristics.
- Preferred at least 5 years experience with MPLS, BGP, iBGP, OSPF, QoS and Pseudo-wire.
- Vendor specific networking certifications required.
